Umbrella Theatre have been very lucky to score a residency at Fraser Studios with the brilliant visual artist Aesha Henderson. (You can check out her work exhibiting NOW at Gaffa Gallery, Sydney CBD)
Fraser Studios are a series of beautiful antique warehouses donated temporarily for use as multidisciplinary artist spaces and studios. We have been busily working away here on an ‘under the sea’ themed performance, and had the chance to display the work in progress along with an art installation during their recent open day BBQ.
It was great fun and the performance consisted of live psychic readings by our very own Paul the octopus. I was confronted by some of the frank and potentially life changing questions Paul was asked.
“Will it rain tomorrow?”
“Will my soccer club win next week?”
“Will moving to Johannesburg be the right decision?” (to cries of ‘No, no!’ from her young son)
“I have previously been working within a team but have a new opportunity working independently. Should I take the risk on this new job offer?”
Serious stuff.
