Its a Small World After All

Its a small world, especially in Sydney and even more so in Marrickville.

This weekend you can catch me performing everyone’s favourite scallywag, ‘Old Mate’, roving around with Umbrella Theatre at Young Henry’s ‘Small World Street Festival’. These guys have been making serious waves with their micro/craft brewery, small bar and events. Their cloudy apple cider is something special and their range of Newtown local beers are very popular and can now be found on tap in many fine establishments.

The street party is set in a cute little Marrickville back street and features live music, live street art, performances and a focus on fine food. All the usual suspects will be there, Bloodwood, Cornersmith & Porteno. I’m salivating in anticipation.

There’s some pretty funky fun tunes as well, with The Snowdroppers, True Vibenation & Richard In Your Mind being my top picks.

Tickets are $59 for the whole day and its bound to be 3 times more chilled out and friendly than the Big Day Out at a quarter of the price.

Umbrella Theatre at Sydney Writers’ Festival

We were blessed with the most beautiful weather down at the pier in Walsh Bay last Sunday. The waves lapped lazily as the sun warmed happy patrons. An amazing last day for the Sydney Writers’ Festival! The place was abuzz with conversation, delight and coffee.

This year Family Day was a real extravaganza. Umbrella Theatre surprised and delighted passers by with poetry & puppetry. Our special guest host puppeteer Sabrina D’Angelo brought along her giant teddy bear for company and hugs. Inside, Alice and Wonderland decor took you down the rabbit hole with loads of activities, talks and games.

Pine Street Smart Arts Festival

We had the great pleasure of performing puppetry at last year’s Smart Arts Festival and we’re back for more.

The opening party is free and will feature your favourite Umbrella ladies, alongside a host of other diversions of art, music and visuals. But that’s not all folks, the party marks a week long celebration of interesting events and opportunities.

They are running heaps of free workshops for people and under, a networking night and a collaborative drawing experiment.

Such a fantastic initiative!

2013 Wrap Up

Wow! I know we all say it every year, but it’s hard to believe that its the end of January already. After a very full and fulfilling 2013, I feel exhausted already. We certainly were busy! Nonetheless, taking a look back puts a smile on my face.

Jurassic Lounge Becomes Extinct!

Yeoow! With great sadness, and yet also with great zest, we will be fare-welling Jurassic Lounge TONIGHT. After several fabulous years performing as freaks amongst the dinosaur bones at this iconic event, extinction has caught up with us.

We are honoured to be performing our puppet parable ‘Save Me’ at the LAST EVER Jurassic Lounge at the Australian Museum.

We had a lot of fun at last month’s event hosting Jurassic Therapy. Old Mate donned a lab coat and posed as a quack, offering shonky treatments, cut price drugs and free breast examinations. Gorgeous hosts Matina & Sam also conducted regular laugh therapy sessions, proven to increase your fertility by 63%. Good fun.

We also featured in the Inner West Courier, Old Mate surrounded by babes as usual.
